One-day Stamp Sale – 15% off

OneDaySale_15percent_off_stampsNever-before has Stampin' Up!® ever put nearly ALL their stamps on sale at the same time….. but they're doing it now….. TODAY ONLY!  (Monday, October 29)  So from now until 11:50 pm Mountain time tonight (that's 10:50 pm Pacific time), you'll get 15% off just about any stamp or stamp set your heart desires…… and there's no minimum or maximum order!

Oh, and when you check in here you'll also notice that for a limited time you can also now buy single stamps….. some of which have been taken from existing stamp sets.  Just something you've been asking for, and Stampin' Up! is testing….. to see if the demand is sufficient to keep this single-stamp idea going.  So PLEASE take advantage of these single-stamps if you like the idea, and if you buy them *today* you'll even get them at 15% off!

So just in time for your holiday crafting and gift-giving, today is about selling more stamps (and stamp sets) than Stampin' Up! has ever sold in a single day before!  Can we do it?!?

MDS 2 – My first project

1st-mds2-vintage-cardWoo Hoo!!!  I was one of the lucky ones who came home from Stampin' Up!'s Convention 2012  with a Beta copy of MDS 2!  But the unfortunate thing is that I only had a wimpy "netbook" with me when they were installing it to our computers, so that's what the program is currently installed on and I'm trying to make a big, robust program function on something that was basically designed to read email and surf the 'net. Ugh. (Tip:  I do NOT recommend MDS of *any* level on a netbook, btw.)  So needless-to-say I can hardly wait until August 1, when I'll be able to download and put MDS 2 on a REAL computer, lol!

But in the meantime I just couldn't wait any longer to play around with a few of the new features.  So, in spite of inefficent looooong waits for processing time (I've got a whole 2G of ram on that netbook), here's my very first project….. turning these very modern elements "old". Er……. "vintage", I mean.

And hurray!  I finally found a purpose for that new In Color, Summer Starfruit!!!  😉

Anyway, so by coloring several elements with that (along with some tans), recoloring the First Edition DSP and the photo to sepia tones, adding some overlays and ink splats, and fiddling around a LOT with transparencies, I present my very first results.  If I'd had a higher-resolution photo to begin with I think it would be just about what I had in my mind's eye when I started.

I can already see that MDS 2 is gonna be way more than even TWICE the fun of the original My Digital Studio with so many new options to create with!  Oh my gosh; I can hardly WAIT to start sharing it in classes!  I already know my very favorite feature is gonna be the new layer management system!  I used it a TON for this project and probably shaved at least a couple hours off the completion time 'cuz I had so many layers and transparencies going on.

MDS 2 will be available to download a free 30-day trial – or upgrade your original version – in only 3 more days!  On August 1!

Make sure you're signed up for my newsletter (green button at www.StamptheRock.com), and meet me back here or over on my FB page for more details as the magic day gets closer!

Stampin’ Up! Convention Wrap-up 2012

02-Entering-Convention-682x1024

Well, I could write and write about what it's like to attend a Stampin' Up! Convention or other event…. but I learned a decade and a half ago that writing (or reading) about it just isn't the same as being there.  Nonetheless, this article comes about as close as any to describing the thrills and renewal we experience at our Stampin' Up! events, along with a glimpse into the Stampin' Up! culture – as experienced by freelance writer Connie Myers, who was apparently embedded among us last week!

So here….. "listen" as Connie shares her up-close-and-personal experience in HER words:

http://www.scrapbookupdate.com/2012/07/27/events-2012-stampin-up-convention/

And then if you'd like to learn more about joining us and becoming part of this fun, you can explore more here!  (And if you happen to live in the Northwest, contact me to learn how to attend a "Regional" Seminar in Tacoma….. on September 29, 2012!)

Reason to Smile – still available thru July

P7150007With 4 card classes, a wedding card consultation, another garage sale of retired products, my team shoebox swap and lots of Convention-prep all crammed into the first 2 weeks of July, it kinda seemed like most of this month's stamping had been for deadlines, rather than just for the fun of it.  But  in spite of that I *did* manage to get this one card made with this month's delightful "only-available-this-month" special stamp set:  "Reason to Smile".  And what a FUN set it is to work with!

Of course if you attend my classes or parties you already know how much I love Stampin' Up!'s 2-step stamps to begin with….. so this one automatically scores points with me there, lol.  But it also seems to fit so comfortably with the various Framelits we're getting more and more of, too….. and just lends itself so beautifully to a warm & wonderful all-occasion card.

For this one I chose a Basic Gray base, laid down a torn strip of First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper (LOVE that stuff!), and stamped with Raspberry Ripple*, and Garden Green onto Very Vanilla cardstock.

Because the flower and stem are actually on one stamp, I carefully inked up the flower part of the stamp with Raspberry Ripple (getting as little ink as possible onto the stem section), and then used a blender pen to remove any unwanted ink that did get onto the areas where I ultimately wanted green.  Once that ink was removed, I then used the side of the brush tip of the green marker to lay in the green before stamping.

The "thank you" is from Curly Cute, currently one of my first "go to" choices for a general greeting these days.

The Framelit upon which the flower is stamped is from the Labels Collection, and the front edge of the card was cut with an Adorning Accents Edgelit.  (And then pierced with a template from the new Essentials Paper-Piercing Pack.)  Love, love, love THAT, too, btw!  Finally, I highlighted the shaped edges with ink on a dauber to add to the visual dimension, and placed the Pearls onto the focal point layer.

* TIP:  My experience so far has been that the new firm foam pads tend to come saturated with more ink than I prefer to work with.  If you find that yours are the same, it's super easy to adjust; I just fold a paper towel into quarters and blot out the excess ink until it's not so juicy. This allows for more detail and definition when inking up a stamp.  And remember, too, that with this new style of pad you only want to tap-tap-tap VERY gently so you don't get ink all over your stamp where you don't need it to be!

So I invite you to take advantage of the opportunity to get this wonderful, exclusive Reason to Smile stamp set …… for only $5 with a $50 order!  Once July is over, the stamp set will be gone, but  you've still got a few more days to claim yours.  Contact me (info in the banner above), or place your order at my online store.

Back from Convention 2012

I'm Baaaackkkk!  And have many, many things to do this morning, but just HAD to quickly share this unforgettable piece of Convention 2012!

This just makes my heart sing!  Can you tell why I LOVE being part of this fun, fun company?!?

“But my friends don’t stamp…..”

Cookie-StampsHow MANY times I've heard a hostess or potential hostess lament that she doesn't have anyone to invite because "my friends don't stamp".  If I've heard it once, I've heard it a couple hundred times over the years.  But Stampin' Up! parties are NOT only for those who already stamp.  And not even for those who "want to learn how to".  They're for "friends" – enjoying a few hours of open-minded creativity and imagination together.

Take MY case, for instance.  When I got invited to my first "stamp party" some 16-1/2 years ago, not only had I never even HEARD of "rubber stamp art", but I even thought I was being invited to a "postage stamp party", lol!  But surprised to learn it wasn't being sponsored by the Post Office, I flipped out at that party, and it obviously made an impact that has enriched my life ever since.  Just think how very different these years would have been had I not been invited to that party!  (BTW, I've never been invited to one as a guest ever since, so that one was, apparently, my *only* chance to be introduced to Stampin' Up! to date!)

Over the years Stampin' Up! has added lots of produAlphabetscts to their line that can appeal far beyond the "rubber stamping" community.  In fact, by my latest count, we have at least 13 categories of products that appeal to people in at least these 8 categories of uses:

  • the home office
  • the kitchen
  • scrapbookers
  • party & event-planning & gift-wrapping
  • sewing/quilting
  • kids' projects (school, posters or otherwise)
  • just for fun & general crafting
  • and the situation we *all* find ourselves in from time to time:  "Oh no! I need a card right now, this very minute!"

And yep….. Stampin' Up! has something for all of that!  So next time you're at one of my parties or classes, ask to check out my chart that features these specific products.
